FBI Questions Clinton Over Email Server

U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was on Saturday interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation over her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. Her campaign said the three and a half hour interview was voluntary.

“Secretary Clinton gave a voluntary interview this morning
about her email arrangements while she was secretary,” Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement, as quoted by CNN. “She is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion. Out of respect for the investigative process, she will not comment further on her interview.”

The FBI is investigating Clinton as well as her aides over whether classified information was managed wrongly on a private email server during her stint as secretary of state; the bureau, however, declined to comment on the interview. Clinton has steadfastly denied accusations she handled classified information in private emails.

However, the State Department in May censured Clinton’s use of her private email server in a report released last month. Now, the Justice Department is trying to determine if her offense can be considered criminal.

According toCNN, sources familiar with the investigation told the network that the Justice Department wanted to conclude the investigation prior to Democratic and Republican conventions set to take place later in July.
